Madame Ginoux was the owner of the Café de la Gare in Arles in France. Van Gogh paints a total of 7 portraits of the Madame whose name is Marie Jullian wife of Joseph-Michel Ginoux. This relation came about at Van Gogh was a tenant at the café from May to September of 1888 before moving into the famous Yellow House. L'Arlésienne is a French term to describe a female inhabitant from the city of Arles, located on the the Rhône River in the southern region of France
