"Morning Cruise on the Arno River"

The Holy Trinity Bridge (in Italian Ponte Santa Trinita) is named for the ancient church near this Renaissance bridge. It was one of the oldest elliptic arch bridge in the world and wasconstructed from 1567 to 1569. But during WW II, the retreating Nazi armies in 1944 destroyed it. After the war, the city leaders decided to reconstruct the Holy Trinity Bridge in detail, much as Budapest city leaders had Chain Bridge reconstructed. The next bridge downstream is the famous Ponte Vecchio, which is the only bridge in Florence that not destroyed in World War II. This bridge spans the Arno river.
