5 Ways to Enjoy Sunset Art

Drama sets the scene for landscape art but especially in sunset art. It is beautiful for the viewers to observe the colors and light of the sunset. Mother Nature is a huge part of amazing sunset art, if not for Mother Nature the artist would not be able to capture the view of the perfect sunset. Understanding sunset art can help make the artwork more valuable to you, the viewer.
1) Determine the type of sunset in the art
The astronomers have seen two different stages of twilight:
- Civil twilight
- Nautical twilight
- Astronomical twilight
These stages occur in 24-hour periods between day and night and then again reverse the order between night and day. Civil twilight happens when the sun disappears until the sun’s center is 6 degrees below the horizon. Nautical twilight is usually when the sun is 6-12 degrees below the horizon. Astronomical twilight is the darkest stage where the center of the sun is 12-18 degrees below the horizon. Each piece of art depicts a different type of sunset.
2) Notice the center of the image
Do not look for something specific or hidden as usually, the sunset is straight ahead in the image. Usually, you can enjoy the image the most by staring at the center of the sunset where the sun is setting. The center of the sunset image shows:
- Center of the sun
- Horizon
- Sky
- Light
3) Observe the colors of the sunset
Most of the sunset art presents many different shades of colors as the sun is up to down. The light of the sunset has to travel a great distance to the viewer’s eyes as blue, green, or yellow lights might get filtered out. If these colors are faded out, that leaves the viewer with warm colors like red and oranges. These colors allow the sunset to look like fire. The colors are truly beautiful and make the sunset art stand out.
4) Don’t judge the sunset art
Sometimes people judge the art before completely observing the whole piece. Every sunset piece is going to be different, but each is unique in its own way.
5) Take observation of how the sunset art allows you to feel
The goal for an artist is for the viewer to feel something by observing their piece. Does it inspire, excite or amaze you? Does it upset you? Does the sunset remind you of something?
