"Brough Superior" by Daniel Peirce
Brough Superior Motorcycle, prounounced "BRUF", motorcycles were made by George Brough in his Brough Superior works plant on Haydn Road in Nottingham, England, from 1919 to 1940. The Brough Superior motorcycles were known as the "Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles" by H. D. Teague who coined this term in The Motor Cycle newspaper. Just over 3000 of these were made in the 21 years of production; and it is estimated that around 1000 of them still exists today.
T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") who had owned eight of these motorcycles died from injuries sustained when he crashed number seven with number eigh was on order. In 2008 Mark Upham who is a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, acquired the rights to the Brough Superior name. In 2013 he met motorcycle designer Thierry Henriette and asked him to design a new Brough Superior motorcycle.
