Description
"Deer Fly"
The deer fly, or sheep fly, are bloodsucking insects considered pests to humans and cattle. They are large flies with brightly colored comound eyes and large clear wings with dark bands. Deer flies are typically larger than the comon housefly and smaller than the horsefly. There are over 250 species of deer flies and they lay between 100 and 800 eggs in batches on vegetation near water or dampness. Another interesting thing is that the male deer fly collects pollen, while the female deer fly feeds on blood, which they need to produce eggs.
