Carrasqueira is one of the most traditional small villages in Comporta and is located just over an hour's drive from Lisbon, Portugal. Carrasqueira is located on the banks of the Sado estuary in front of Setùbal. It is famous for its port on stilts with old wooden mooring lines for local fishing boats. Carrasqueira also features many fishermen’s huts located on the docks or near the shore. Over many years, the agricultural lands of Carrasqueira and its estuary have been exploited by migrant workers who have made their home in these traditional fishermen’s huts. Also known as “Comporta cabanas”, they inspire more recent constructions in the region that mix wood, traditional masonry, and thatched roofs. These fishing huts are now protected and are part of Comporta’s historical heritage".
