"Ladybower Reservoir"

Ladybower Reservoir is a large Y-shaped reservoir located in the Upper Derwent Valley at the heart of the Peak District National Park. This park is in England and lies in Derbyshire, but its northeastern area lies in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The reservoir was built between 1935 and 1943 and was officially opened by King George VI on 24th September 1945.

The bridge crossing you see in the background is the Ashopton Viaduct. It is the only crossing on reservoir. The viaduct itself stands directly on top of the old village of Ashopton, which was flooded to make way for the reservoir. Construction on this viaduct began at the same time the reservoir in 1935, but like many other projects was interrupted by the Second World War. Interesting enough, in 1947, due to low water levels following a drought, the spire of the old Ashopton church reappeared next to the viaduct.
