Description
"Rouen Cathedral, West Façade," by Claude Monet
Rouen Cathedral, West Façade is an oil on canvas painting by French impressionist Claude Monet. It is part of The Rouen Cathedral series which captured the façade of the cathedral at different times of the day and year. The Rouen Cathedral paintings were made in 1892 and 1893 in Rouen, Normandy, then reworked in Monet’s studio in 1894. Monet rented spaces in Rouen across the street from the cathedral as his temporary studio. Rouen Cathedral, with its Gothic style architecture, was inspiration for more than thirty oil paintings that reflect changes in appearance and different lighting conditions.
