A recognizable symbol of Chicago architecture and commerce is the Wrigley Building clock tower standing proudly where Michigan Avenue crosses the Chicago River. It was the first of the buildings that have come to define the Magnificent Mile after William Wrigley Jr. decided to build a new headquarters for his company on an oddly shaped lot west of Michigan Avenue.
