Description
"Vase With Irises"(1890)
The Dutch post-impressionist painter Van Gogh paints four bouquets of Spring flowers in May of 1890, just before he checks himself out of the Saint-Rémy asylum. Van Gogh paints two irises and two roses. These purple/violet irises originally had a pink background, which has since faded in time due to the fleeting nature of red pigments used in his paints back then. This painting was owned by Vincent's mother until her death in 1907.
