Portugal has a distinguished maritime history with Portuguese sailors transversing the oceans and led the European age of discovery. Portuguese ships have been finding their way home from the far corners of the globe for well over 600 years. These lighthouses served as their GPS' back then. It's not surprising that lighthouses have played an important role in Portuguese culture, and that they are treasured national monuments today.

This lighthouse know as the Aveiro Lighhouse is located is located near the Summer resort town of Barra. I was constructed in 1893 and happ;ens to be Portugal's tallest lighthouse standing 203 feet (62 meters) high!
