Description

"Lucerne Switzerland Aquatic Reflections"

Location: Lucerne, Switzerland

This is an alternate version of Lucerne Switzerland but with the tower lit up in a different color. The cityscape of Lucerne, Chapel Bridge, and the tower makes it a perfect trifecta. Interesting enough, Chapel Bridge is one of Lucerne's oldest landmarks (built in 1332); It is considered to be Europe's oldest covered bridge. Built in the 14th century, spans the Reuss River, and was originally a part of the city fortifications and protected the town as people entered via the bridge.

Lucerne’s water tower is yet another attractive piece of construction blending art, architecture, and function into one. This octagonal tower is 111.5 feet (34 meters) tall and was built around 1300 as part of the city wall. It was used as an archive, treasury, prison, and torture chamber.

Use of rooms for torture chambers today is now frowned upon by many, so the middle floors are now the headquarters for the Lucerne Artillery Association. As a side note, a colony of Alpine Swifts has been roosting under the rooftop of the water tower for decades. When these black and white birds return from their winter home in Africa, they are the harbinger of springtime for the inhabitants of the Swiss city Lucerne.

All our prints are shipped in high quality aluminum frames. Our EFX watermark will not be printed on the final artwork. All of our products are printed on archival quality UV light resistant polyester.
