Description

"The Hungarian Parliament Building"

The Hungarian Parliament Building in Hungarian is called, "Országház [ˈorsaːkhaːz]", which translates to "House of the Country" or "House of the Nation"). It's a notable landmark of Hungary and a popular tourist destination in Budapest. Budapest was united from three cities in 1873, namely Buda, Óbuda, and Pest. The building is situated on Kossuth Square and on the eastern bank of the Danube River. It was designed by Hungarian architect Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style. Construction started in 1873 and opened in 1902. Unfortunately Steindl passed away before construction was full completed. Since it's opening, this is the largest building Hungary has built.

The Hungarian Parliament Building is built in the Gothic Revival style; it features a symmetrical façade and a central dome. The dome is patterned after a Renaissance Revival architecture. The parliament is also largely symmetrical from the inside, with two identical parliament halls on the opposing sides of the building. One of the two halls is still in use today for sessions of the Hungarian National Assembly, the other for ceremonies, conferences, and guided tours. It is 879 feet long (268m) and 404 feet (123m) wide. Its interior includes ten (10) courtyards.
