Description

"Waterloo Bridge 1903," by Claude Monet

Claude Monet's beautiful canvas oil painting of the fog over Waterloo Bridge in 1903. Monet travelled to London for the first time in 1870 and became enthralled with the city. His fascination with the London landscape was mainly due to its fogs, a byproduct of the Industrial Revolution. In 1899 Monet returned to London and rented a room in the Savoy Hotel, where he began his Waterloo Bridge series. This set of oil paintings portrays different versions of the bridge under the effects of London's atmosphere and foggy appearance.
