The Palace of Westminster is used as the meeting place for both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It is also known as the Houses of Parliament after its occupants. This beautiful palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster in London, England. It is the first royal palace constructed in the 11th century and the Westminster became the primary residence of the Kings of England. There was a fire that destroyed the royal apartments. Over time it was restructured and more recently in 2008, there were extensions added.
